Understanding the child's developmental needs
Behaviour is considered alongside the child's age, temperament, language skills, sleep and ability to regulate emotions. The aim is to recognise the need or difficulty expressed through behaviour, rather than interpreting every challenging behaviour as deliberate defiance.
